This April 20th, don’t miss the BBC documentary featuring our Mandel Vilar Press’s author Dr. Allan Shapiro (“Doctor on Call: Chernobyl Responder, Jewish Refugee, Radiation Expert”). See it HERE on BBC One!
Dr. Shapiro was a first responder to the Chernobyl meltdown and its aftermath. She has provided first-hand testimony about what really happened, what the immediate and long-term effects of the spread of radiation are, not only in Ukraine but throughout all of Europe. Since Chernobyl Dr. Shapiro has become one of the world’s leading experts on developing medical counter- measures for radiation sickness.
This month, forty years on from the world’s worst nuclear accident, the BBC travels to Ukraine to examine the events that led to the disaster, to speak to those who were there and discover what we can learn from them today.
Among the engineers, ‘liquidators’ tasked with cleaning up the accident, and ordinary citizens who lived in the shadow of Chernobyl, we hear from Dr Alla Shapiro, who treated victims of the accident.
